WHAT WE BELIEVE
Simply put, we believe in bringing more good to the world and connecting with people who really want to make a difference. We are looking for people with the courage of Gryffindor, the wisdom of Ravenclaw, the ambition of Slytherin and the heart of Hufflepuff. No matter which house you Slyther-into, we believe we are all a little bit of each.
We believe it doesn’t matter which house you’re in—it’s how you wield your magic.
THE STORY BEHIND THE MAGIC
What started out as a Harry Potter-themed graduation party, became so much more than we ever imagined. Soulaire Allerai, the mastermind behind it all, wanted to surprise her superfan daughter and immerse her in the world of Harry Potter to celebrate her college graduation. Originally, the plan was to decorate one room in her Minnetonka office building to look like a Great Hall for the party. But as you can imagine one fantastic room led to another, and the labor of love grew.
And boy did it grow.
She enlisted the help of 30 of her closest friends and using little more than paint, styrofoam, cardboard and a whole lot of imagination, they transformed her entire office building into a wizarding world.
Lorawai, the daughter behind the magic, was surprised by an owl invitation to her first year at Hogwarts. On the night of the big reveal, one of Soulaire's burly friends dressed up like Hagrid, showed up at Lorawai's front door on a motorcycle, and escorted her to Hogwarts. The party was a blast, and after the three-day party; there was no way it was going to be torn down.
Potter fans got wind of the magical creation and begged to come and see it, so under the wing of LFSC, a local nonprofit, they agreed to open up the building for free tours to the public with the option to donate to help fundraise for a local charity.
IT BROUGHT A COMMUNITY TOGETHER
After their story was featured in the local newspaper, a flood of fans united to help the cause. With the encouragement and support from the local community, we became a part of the Harry Potter Alliance as the 3rd Minnesotan Chapter. After several months of tours from a committed group of our volunteers, we were able to raise funds to help support the local homeless population, the ICA food shelf, and multiple teen support programs.
We received dozens of thank you letters telling us how Magic for Good gave people hope, and became a way to rally as a community for a cause.
SO, WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
Everyone keeps saying,“We don’t want it to go away!" or "Will you be bringing Hogwarts back?"
Because this project wasn't originally created for the public, everything is made of cardboard, Styrofoam, pool noodles (and anything else the creators of this could get their hands on.) The wear and tear from having thousands of people come through and tour the space has been brutal, and storing, repairs, and preserving the hard work and artwork is proving to be more difficult than planned.
We are currently looking to help fundraise for this project. Learn more here.
